PSE provides independent engineering services to its Clients in the LNG/LPG business, cryogenic storage in general. These services are exclusively related to the prestressed concrete outer tank and can be preliminary design, bid design, detailed design or design review. For various projects and various Clients PSE has demonstrated its flexibility to handle different stages in the realisation of LNG/LPG storage tanks all over the world over the past 30 years.
The prestressed concrete outer tank and its foundation, raft or piled, is designed for the construction phase, testing phase, operation phase and emergency phase. Emergencies include liquid spill, cold spot, SSE earthquake, blast, PRV fire, adjacent tank fire, and aircraft impact. The Client’s soil investigation report is carefully reviewed and is the basis of our foundation design. If not available a seismic hazard assessment can be carried out by PSE.
The storage tanks are analysed with FEM. This includes non-linear statics, dynamics, impact and soil-structure-interaction. Special models are used for time-history analysis of earthquakes including liquid sloshing. Dedicated software demonstrates the compliance with international codes and Client’s requirements at concrete cross-section level.
The soil preparation, piling and concrete construction works can be supervised on site by PSE on behalf of the Client. Experienced engineers guide in limited time spent, local supervisors in their effort to accomplish the complicated task of LNG/LPG storage tank construction. In the past the presence of PSE site supervisors has proven to be a distinctive contribution to the successful completion of LNG projects.
